Tail Vise Workbench Purpose of a Tail Vise
a Nicholson style bench. The bench needed to break down so as to be able to go into an apartment. Being the workbench building fool I seem to have become I had to give it a try. Here is an overview of what I built. I started with the top first on this bench. The whole bench is made from lumber yard yellow pine 2 in x 12 in x 16 ft framing lumber.. Before glue up, I hit them with the hand plane to make sure the mating surfaces are flat. You might also note the shakiness in the old bench here, and that s a lot of the reasoning behind the new one. The glue up consists of a piece that is significantly shorter, which creates a half lap that the apron will nest into.. The plans are in pdf format and can be viewed and printed using Acrobat Reader, a free program.
